Just wondering if the 536's that Telecom supply are locked?
I've been trying to upgrade the firmware on one that I bought on trademe, but every firmware I try shows up as incompatible in the upgrade wizard.
The Telecom firmware seems to only support PPPoA connections, and I need to tunnel over PPTP. |

Judging from what the people who run this site have said, I would say your 536 is locked. http://speedtouch.net.nz/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1220
That doesn't mean it is impossible to fix it, only you need to upload a suitable template or preconfigured user.ini
What firmware is your 536? Can you send me the current user.ini? Please send as an attachment to my email. |

I acquired one of these. Didn't know anything about locking (I thought Telecom had given up on that sort of thing since the days of the rented M1122) so was surprised when the modem told me "You cannot directly edit the service settings of your SpeedTouch" even though I was logged on with the Admin account. After a bit of searching I realised the modem must be locked :-( However while annoying, it hasn't caused any insurmountable problems yet since the CLI interface seems to be less limited. For example for some reason (I think unrelated to the locking but I'm not sure) when I tried to add another IP for the modem (I prefer 192.168.101.x) it failed but was able to do it fine with the CLI.
Alsoi, I'm not sure what you mean by tunnel over PPtP but presuming you mean you want to be able to relay the PPPoA connection over PPtP so another router or computer makes the connection via PPtP it's possible with the CLI. Indeed I was under the impression you can't do this with the web interface locked or not locked. But following these instructions and it's working fine http://www.speedtouch.net.nz/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1187
P.S. When I tried to do it, it couldn't flush all the ATM settings because it was in use. However it worked eventually. Either you have to wait a while after turning the modem on (don't connect the modem to the phone line is my recommendation, mine wasn't), or perhaps when you do a saveall it resets the ATM or perhaps if you try adding the ATM device again it stops. I'm not sure which but it worked for me after a while. Once you've flushed the ATM you should be able to add the new device and set up PPtP relay. |

I had to repeat the process and it seems to be the interaction between flushing one or more of the other services and saveall. Or perhaps flushing ATM even though it fails sets it in motion. In any case, if you just go through the list and ignore the errors and saveall then repeat the two ATM flushes and saveall again it should work fine. |

Thanks Nil Einne, i'll give it a try.
I'd actually given up on it after the ATM flush didnt work over the CLI. I'll give it another try and see if i can sort it out. |

Just noticed that I'd forgotten to respond to this - I did indeed get this working in relayed PPP mode by following Nil Einnes steps. You just have to enter every ATM flush related command twice for some reason - the first time will give you an error about the interface still being in use.
1. telnet the modem 2. CLI commands: =>:system reset =>:ppp relay flush =>:eth flush =>:atm flush =>:ppp flush =>:atm phonebook flush =>:saveall =>:atm phonebook add name=BrPPPoE_ph addr=0.100 =>:service system modify name=PPTP state=enabled =>:saveall |
