Re-Establishing the Network Binding

If you are using a STUSB or ST330 modem with Windows 98/ME, receiving an error 680 message (no dial-tone) and both lights on the modem are solid green then you may need to manually re-establish the network binding.

Instructions on how to manually re-establish the network binding can be downloaded in word document format by clicking here, otherwise the instructions in HTML follow:

Instructions:

Checking the Binding has been created:

To check if the binding needs to be created follow these steps:

  • Go to My Computer

  • Double click Dial-Up Networking

  • Right-click on ‘Alcatel Speedtouch Connection’ and click properties.

The following window should open.

If the binding is configured correctly there should be a ‘SpeedTouch-Line0X’ option in the ‘Connect using’ drop down list. (where X = 1 or 2)

If this option is available but is not selected, select it.  Your modem should now work.

If this option is not available, you will need to manually create this binding.

Manually Creating the Binding:

  • Right-click Network Neighbourhood, then click Properties.

  • Under the Network configuration window select the ‘Alcatel Speedtouch USB ADSL PPP’ adapter and click properties.

  • Select the Bindings tab, click the NDISWAN protocol once to deselect it, and once more to reselect it.  Then press OK

  • Press OK twice more to exit the Network Configuration window.  You should then be prompted to restart the computer, press Yes

Once your computer has restarted, you will need to select the correct adapter for your Alcatel Speedtouch Connection.  Follow the steps outlined in ‘Checking the current adapter’ and select the ‘SpeedTouch-Line0X’. Press OK.

Your modem should now be properly configured as shown below.
